About Me
Welcome! My name is Ann Goldfarb. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP). It is my hope to provide you with insight into my professional background as well as share the methods and practices that I provide to my clients. It is extremely important to me to meet my clients where they are and create a collaborative and safe therapeutic relationship. The work that I do is not only something that I’m deeply passionate about but that I love dearly. I am here to help you recognize your strengths even in the most challenging moments. I understand that selecting a therapist and beginning therapy can be scary and overwhelming process. You are self-knowing. You are not alone.
My professional clinical licensure in Social Work has allowed me to work with individuals and families for over a decade in diverse settings such as: Safe Horizon (New York City), Denver Children’s Hospital, St. Paul Heath Center, SEARCH, MD Anderson Cancer Center. I use a variety of theoretical approaches with my clients including but not limited to cognitive behavioral therapy, somatic experiencing, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) trauma informed yoga, family systems, solution focused, strengths perspective.
One aspect of the human experience that has become of particular interest to me is trauma. It comes in many forms including difficult relationships, intense life events, and the hardships of everyday living. We all have trauma, and it can manifest and stay in our bodies. The manifestation can show up in many forms like anxiety, chronic health problems, depression, PTSD, dissociation, emotional dysregulation, and more. Unfortunately, the list is long and can display themselves unannounced. The impact can be immediate, gradual or occur much later on in our lives. Sometimes we encounter events that are so difficult, so hard, so unimaginable that our sense of being, safety, love, life-everything is lost. It can feel like it is too difficult to resume and continue on like we were before the event occurred. However, I truly believe the human mind and the human body are resilient. Our bodies are powerful but can become stuck and seem like a scary place. Our past can sometimes feel like it will forever inform our present and our future. I believe that we can come back into our mind and body and feel safe.
I studied yoga at BIG Power Yoga in the Teacher Empowerment Program where I received my 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher certification. I also completed additional training in trauma informed yoga through the THRIVE Trauma-Informed ® protocol/model. I completed advanced training in Somatic Experiencing which employs awareness of body sensation to help people "renegotiate" and heal rather than re-live or re-enact trauma. My therapeutic work is eclectic in that I use a variety of approaches that value and acknowledge the “felt sense” within the body. I believe that we are our greatest resource.
